Macromedia Flash Tutorial

[ Programming Trail >> Macromedia Flash >> Macromedia Flash Tutorial]

This tutorial will explain some of the basics of macromedia flash.

Use timeline to animate

Select 1024 x 768.

White area is called the stage. Right hand side is panels, commonly known as auxiliary panels. All these panels are available from menu too. We will be using tools panels, time line panel (helps in process of creating animation), and property inspector (all the properties of an object on the stage).

Rapid transition of still images in time.

There is a document frame rate in flash (no. of images in a sec.) Below it is 12.0 fps.

Increase frame rate implies more file size. Films usually have 20 fps.

The properties of the objects in the stage are shown here.

Changing default frame rate of a document do this,

then

Here you can set a default frame rate. It is a property of the document. The smoothness of a document

Key Frame: Contains objects that can be modified in the stage.

For each animation we will have two key frames, start frame, and end frame.

Shows one layer (layer 1) and one frame (in red).

Draw objects by using these, library.

A simple drawn object looks like this: place holder for a circle

Change colors by using this,

In flash stroke (left), and fill are treated separately.

To combine the circles both do this,

Grouped object or symbols can be used in motion twain.

You can convert any object on stage to a symbol.

Today only simple graphics symbols are used.

Symbol resides in the library.

Next view,

You can convert an object in the stage to a symbol by going to this menu option. Use symbols as much as possible for obvious advantages ;).

Project: (Doing a motion twain)

We will first make a symbol for representing a basket ball.

This shows the center of the stage.

Pencil tool and its properties,

Additional options for the pencil tool,

There are two types of key frames, 1. Blank Key Frame 2. Carry over Key Frame

shows two key frames (black dots).

When you click on a key frame you will see this in properties (properties inspector), showing three types of “Tweens.”

The key frames are editable.

We will select the “motion” twain.

Anything off the stage will not show up (see figure below).

Select Start Key Frame, Select End Key Frame, and then select the “Tween” to move the object.

Layers are used to group different types of animations.

To create a new layer click here:

The “eye” to show or hide a layer. The “lock” to lock graphics of a layer. The “pencil” shows you can edit that layer. “Square” switches between filled and not filled views.

A guided motion was created using the “motion” tween. Let’s create a guide layer to guide the animation.

Guide layer doesn’t show up in the movie. Draw the path using the pencil tool.

Snap the object to the guide layer (at start key frame and at end key frame).

If you want to redraw the guide layer delete and then do it again.

Changing Text:

To test the movie:

Shape Tween use non-grouped objects.

If there is a blue box around the object then it is a grouped object.

If you write a sentence you have to use break apart twice.

Use Shape Tween to see the affect.
